Digital journalist - Denver7 Team

Jeff Anastasio is a digital journalist for Denver7 and most recently worked as Digital Executive Produce and the station’s Director of Digital Media helping to lead the digital and streaming teams.

With over 25 years of experience in broadcast and digital news, Jeff in 2018 decided to call beautiful Colorado home after working at WFAA in Dallas as the station’s Director of Digital Content developing and executing the station’s digital media transformation strategy.

Before his time in Dallas, Jeff spent 12 years at KENS 5 in San Antonio in a variety of news and digital roles, including Director of Multimedia Innovation and various journalism and creative services roles.

Jeff got his start in the industry working for 6 years at his hometown television station, KXII in Sherman, Texas and Ardmore, Oklahoma. In college, he was a musician and drum major studying music education and conducting before leaving to start his dream of working in television before later graduating with an undergraduate degree in business from the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio.

Giving up his car several years ago, Jeff is an avid cyclist who commutes daily from northwest Denver to the station and is a proponent of the mental health benefits of bicycling. Because of his interest in all aspects of cycling, Jeff is particularly interested in reporting on issues impacting people who spend life on two wheels including transportation infrastructure, safety and Colorado’s rise in traffic-related injuries and deaths.

Growing up in Oklahoma and tornado alley, Jeff is passionate about weather coverage and helping Coloradans navigate and make sense of our crazy weather. He also is a self-proclaimed aviation-geek who loves digging into flying-related topics with a particular interest in general aviation and small aircraft.

Jeff has a passion for photography and photojournalism and is the founding member of Denver7’s popular Colorado photography group on Facebook, ‘Discover Colorado Through Your Photos’Over 25 years, he has covered too many stories to count but can trace his love of television journalism to his upbringing in small town Oklahoma. TV news opened up a window to the world, new cultures and new experiences beyond what he could see growing up in small town Oklahoma.

Jeff served on the board of The Center on Colfax and helped to produce the country’s first virtual pride parade, the Denver Pride Parade in 2020 and 2021 during the Coronavirus pandemic to help the center meet critical financial goals to continue to serve LGBTQ+ people in Colorado.

He has won multiple Edward R. Murrow Awards and two Heartland Emmy Awards for innovation in political coverage and for a 2011 interactive project called ‘Heroes’, which told the stories of the WWII generation.
