DENVER – If you’re headed to the mountains Friday for an early start to the weekend, or going up on Saturday or Sunday, be sure to pack warm clothes, as snow is expected across higher elevations.
It was already snowing at the higher elevations as of 11 a.m. Friday, and the snow is expected to become more widespread throughout the day.
The National Weather Service in Boulder says that between 2 and 5 inches are possible at elevations about 10,000 feet and that snow levels will decrease to 9,000 feet Friday afternoon before tapering off Friday evening.
Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park closed Friday because of snow and ice and could remain closed through the weekend if poor conditions persist.
Some rain and colder temperatures are expected to move in across the Front Range and eastern plains Friday afternoon, which will also bring gusty winds to those areas.
High temperatures are expected to be in the upper 50s this weekend in Denver, with lows in the low-40s.
In the mountains, high temperatures are expected to be in the 30s at higher elevations this weekend, with lows in the mid-20s and a mix of rain, ice and snow possible.
Another storm is expected to move in over the weekend, which could bring the possibility of a rain-snow mix in Denver early Monday morning, when temperatures are expected to be in the low-to-mid 30s. Highs on Monday in Denver are only expected to reach the low 40s.
