The first snow of the season is here! 5 Things to Know for Monday, Oct. 9

DENVER – Good morning and welcome to Colorado's awesome and strange weather! Here’s what you need to know today, Monday, Oct. 9.

1. It's going to be a slushy commute
Drivers around Colorado, including the Denver metro area, will wake up to slushy roads and treacherous driving conditions, so it’s important to be prepared and get ready for the winter to come. We tell you how here:

2. CDOT and other agencies across the state are plowing away
In the Denver metro, CDOT crews have already begun rotating 12-hour shifts, and will work around the clock until the snow ends and roads are in good shape. Will snow plows hit your neighborhood? Read more here:

3. This snowstorm could probably break your trees and kill your plants
If you haven't already started, now will be a good idea to start removing snow accumulated on tree branches and covering those plants

4. Are you to new the state? Don't freak out — this is normal 
It's not even winter yet, but snow has started to fall. Here's what you need to know if you're experiencing all of this for the first time:

5. Yes, the snow will go away soon; after all, it's Colorado
