DENVER, Colo. — Are you tired of the heat yet?! It was another scorcher across Colorado! Denver tied the record high of 99-degrees at Denver International Airport this afternoon. The previous record was set in 1980.
It won't cool down much overnight, as lows are expected to drop into the mid to upper 60s under partly cloudy skies.
We're in for one more day of sizzling hot temperatures before a cold front ushers in milder air to much of the state by the weekend. Daytime highs are expected to skyrocket back into the upper 90s to low 100s Friday afternoon along the Urban Corridor. Some cities in the southeastern corner of the state will see highs between 105 and 110 degrees. Check in on your friends, family and neighbors and make sure they're staying cool.
Along with the heat, the Front Range is still dealing with areas of smoke from wildfires burning out west. Expect to see more hazy skies Friday especially in Northern Colorado. An Air Quality Health Advisory is in effect for much of northwestern Colorado as they're closest to the flames and dealing with the highest levels of smoke particulates.
Good news - relief is on the way! A cold front moves into the state Friday night, dramatically dropping temperatures this weekend. We'll see highs in the mid to upper 80s Saturday with upper 70s on tap Sunday.
A few thunderstorms and showers are possible on Saturday, with an even better chance of some much-needed rain on Sunday. The summer-like heat returns by the middle of next week.
