DENVER — If today felt like the hottest Aug. 21 you’ve ever remembered, that’s because it was, Denver.
The Mile High City officially broke the record high for Aug. 21 with a temperature of 100 degrees at Denver International Airport. The previous record was 99 degrees in 2023, according to data from the National Weather Service in Boulder.

But Friday’s high temperature isn’t the first time Denver has broken the record with triple-digit temps for the month of August.
The thermometer has reached 100 degrees or above at least 12 other times since 1872, according to the NWS.
The highest temperature Denverites have felt in August since record keeping began? That was 105 degrees in 1878 — the same year Thomas Edison patented the phonograph — which made modern music possible.
With today's record-breaking heat, Denver will have recorded four days this month with temperatures at or above 100 degrees, according to the NWS.
Though it may feel hellish right now, Denver7 chief meteorologist Lisa Hidalgo said earlier in the day people can expect a pleasant evening once the Broncos pre-season home opener against the Green Bay Packers begins, with a temperature of around 90 degrees by 7 p.m.
Denver7 meteorologist Stacey Donaldson has the game forecast in the video below:
By 10 p.m., temps will drop to the low 80s, but there is a slight chance of an isolated shower or storm.
Temps will drop slightly for the weekend with a better chance of showers or storms along the Front Range.
Hidalgo said heavier showers and localized flooding are, along with a few severe storms on the northeastern Plains on Saturday.
Denver7 is committed to making a difference in our community by standing up for what's right, listening, lending a helping hand and following through on promises. See that work in action, in the videos above.
