Increased security at Eagle County high school following ‘written threats of violence'

EAGLE COUNTY, Colo. – Threats left at a high school in Eagle County have forced authorities to increase security until a full investigation has been completed by authorities.

A message that “communicated a threat of violence for a specific date” was found written on the floor of Battle Mountain High School (BMHS) Friday, according to Eagle County Sheriff’s Office Jessie Porter.

Deputies are working alongside other local law enforcement agencies and Eagle County schools to follow up on any leads that may lead them to a suspect or suspects.

Heightened security will also be taking place at other school functions, Porter said in a prepared statement.

“We will do everything we can in order to ensure the utmost safety and security of our students and community members,” said Eagle County Sheriff James Van Beek.

Parents and students were notified about the threats but were told school will continue as usual next week.
