U.S. News & World Report names best high schools in Colorado

More than 270 Colorado high schools were named as a top school when compared to others across the country, according to a new study released this week.

The U.S. News & World Report released its rankings of more than 23,000 public high schools around the United States. More than 17,000 of them were ranked on six factors, based on their state assessment scores and how well they prepare their students for college.

D’Evelyn Junior/Senior High School in Jefferson County topped the list in the state. Almost 90% of the 625 students take Advanced Placement classes, and 97% of them graduate.

D’Evelyn ranked 131 in the national ranking. It was also ranked No. 122 for STEM High Schools.

These are the top 10 high schools in Colorado, based on the study:
· D’Evelyn Junior/Senior High School, Denver
· Denver School of the Arts, Denver
· The Vanguard School, Colorado Springs
· Peak to Peak Charter School, Lafayette
· Crested Butte Community School, Crested Butte
· Liberty Common Charter School, Fort Collins
· KIPP Denver Collegiate High School, Denver
· Strive Prep – Smart Academy, Denver
· STEM Middle and High School, Highlands Ranch
· Fairview High School, Boulder

According to the study, the overall top schools in the country are:
· Academic Magnet High School in North Charleston, South Carolina
· Maine School of Science and Mathematics in Limestone, Maine
· BASIS Scottsdale in Scottsdale, Arizona
· Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Alexandria, Virginia
· Central Magnet School in Murfreesboro, Tennessee
