EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. — The remains of a 20-year-old who went missing around Mount Herman in September have been found and positively identified.
On Dec. 12 around 9:40 a.m., El Paso County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a remote area near Balanced Rock Road and Forest Service Road 322 to respond to a suspicious incident.
When they arrived, they found skeletal remains.
The county coroner has identified the remains as Kevin Rudnicki, the 20-year-old hiker who went missing in early September around Mount Herman.
In September, authorities said they believed he had gone hiking, but didn’t bring anything for camping. It wasn’t uncommon for the University of Wyoming student to hike or camp on Mount Herman Road when he was home.
The cause and manner of his death has not been released, as the coroner’s office said it wants to have as much information as possible before making a ruling.
