Man missing at Breckenridge Ski Resort Sunday afternoon found dead Monday

BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. – A 47-year-old man who was reported missing Sunday evening was found dead by Breckenridge Ski Patrol Monday morning.

The Colorado man, identified by Summit County Coroner Regan Wood as Sean Haberthier, is the ski resort’s second death of the season so far. A 48-year-old Longmont man died Dec. 19 after hitting a tree.

Haberthier Monday was first reported missing around 5 p.m. Sunday after a day of skiing. Ski patrol searched for the man, but did not find him until around 8:30 a.m. Monday.

When the man was found, he was taken to St. Anthony Summit Medical Center in Frisco, where he was pronounced dead.

Summit Daily reported the coroner told the paper that Haberthier wasn’t wearing a helmet, and that friends wrote on Facebook he had hit a tree near the Lower Boneyard run, though that has not been officially confirmed by the resort.

This is the third overall death at Colorado ski resorts this season; aside from Haberthier and the Longmont man, a San Antonio woman was killed in a chairlift malfunction at Ski Granby Ranch in December.
