GOLDEN, Colo. – A Lakewood man has been charged with murder in the stabbing death of his girlfriend on New Year's Day, according to the First Judicial District Attorney's office.

Stephen Derossett, 52, appeared in Jefferson County District Court on Wednesday, where officials advised him that he was being charged with first-degree murder.

Police found Derossett's girlfriend, Keli Jackson, 49, stabbed to death on Jan. 1 at their home in the 2500 block of South Cody Way in Lakewood. Officers were responding to a report of menacing when they arrived and found Jackson on the floor, suffering from multiple stab wounds, according to a news release. Jackson died at the scene.

Derossett told police that Jackson had moved in with him about seven months ago, the news release said.

Derossett is being held without bond at the Jefferson County jail. His next court date is scheduled for Jan. 24, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 4.
