FORT COLLINS, Colo. – A house burned to the ground near Horsetooth Reservoir late Wednesday afternoon, leaving no injuries and burning a small patch of grass nearby.

Firefighters with the Poudre Fire Authority said the fire was burning in a home on Continental Circle at around 5:10 p.m.

Firefighters went door to door asking neighbors nearby to evacuate. Emergency notifications were sent out to 48 other homes, a Poudre Fire Authority official said in a news release.

Neighbors gathered in a nearby home, waiting to be allowed back in and talking about what they could do to help the man who lost his house.

No one was home at the time of the fire and no other nearby homes were damaged in the fire, fire officials said.

Diedre Sewell was evacuated from her home across the street and said people were frantically trying to save their homes when they got the notifications.

"It was coming right down the hill, and there is a cabin in the path. Her husband was home, and he was out back with a hose trying to hose it down and couldn’t do anything. So, he grabbed his dog and got out of there."

The blaze was put out at around 7 p.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
