WALDEN, Colo. -- Hundreds of firefighters battling the Beaver Creek Fire reached a milestone on Thursday as containment levels reached 41 percent.
Crews have been battling the fire that has burned down one structure to date since the blaze sparked on June 19, successfully deterring the flames from lapping up several more structures and homes.
To date, the fire has scorched 35,543 acres throughout Jackson County. Just five days prior, the fire had burned 34,756 acres and only was 18 percent contained.
Looking towards the future, officials say they plan to continue surrounding and extinguishing parts of the fire. They also plan to repair forest roads and removing hazardous trees from roads.
