DENVER – A 42-year-old man was arrested in a killing off East Colfax Avenue on Tuesday night, accused of shooting another man in the parking lot of a motel, according to a probable cause statement from police.
Herman Colbert faces a charge of first-degree murder, police said.
Officers responded to about 8:15 p.m. to a report of the shooting in the 8400 block of East Colfax, at the Western Motel. Officers found Colbert laying in the parking lot and found the victim laying nearby, in a pool of blood, the probable cause statement said.
A witness told police she had seen a man hit Colbert two times in the face, and then saw
Colbert get out of a car and shoot the man, the statement said.
Surveillance video confirmed that the man hit Colbert and that Colbert stepped out of his vehicle with a gun, the statement said. But the video didn't have audio, so investigators couldn't determine when a gunshot was fired.
