DENVER — Denver Public Schools is asking the community for input on the qualities and characteristics the next superintendent should have.

One of the ways the district is seeking input is through a series of community meetings.

The final two meetings are scheduled for this week:

  • 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday at West Campus (Library), 951 Elati St, Denver, CO 80204
  • 11:00 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at North Campus, 2960 Speer Blvd.

The district's website says the format for the community meetings is “house style,” a type of small group discussion that was used by the United Farm Workers of American.

The board said it that small groups enable them to hear from more people during a shorter period of time at meetings that often have dozens and even hundreds of attendees. The groups allow them to engage people in their native languages, which is especially important in a district where more than 36 percent of our more-than-90,000 families speak a language other than English.

The district hopes to interview candidates between Oct. 15 and Nov. 26.

The schedule calls for the announcement of finalist(s) on Nov. 26, with the final candidate announced Dec. 10.
