DENVER – A Denver Police officer was arrested Thursday following accusations that he stole $1,200 in cash from a crime scene.

According to affidavit, officer Julian Archuleta was wearing a body camera when he responded to a shots fired call on Oct. 7 at a 7-Eleven located at 4708 N. Washington St.

When officer Archuleta arrived, a short pursuit ensued, ending when the suspect's vehicle crashed in a single-car rollover. The affidavit alleges that officer Archuleta was searching the car and video from his body camera captured him removing cash from the rolled vehicle.

When Internal Affairs asked him about the incident, he replied that the cash may have slipped into his bag, the affidavit read. He returned with the cash and was later arrested.

The affidavit reads that because of the alleged theft and a warrantless search of the vehicle, formal charges against the suspect involved in the shooting couldn't be filed.
