AURORA, Colo. – It was an unseasonably warm day in early January when an Aurora family received the news they were fearing: the body of their 6-year-old son was found.
After a multi-day search, deputies found David Puckett’s lifeless body under the ice of a pond in Aurora’s Olympic Park. David had a history of wandering, the family said.
Three months later, David’s family, members of the public and staff from the Aurora Police Department gathered to honor the 6-year-old boy.
The group released balloons Tuesday morning during a ceremony to mark the three-month anniversary of David’s death.
“Catch the balloons, David,” Aurora Police Chief Nick Metz tweeted.
More than 150 volunteers searched for David after he went missing on New Year's Eve. His body was found about three days later. An autopsy revealed no traumatic injuries.
