Broncos parking secrets uncovered by Denver7

A story Denver7 first reported last year but it'll still come in handy. Details below:

Parking near the stadium will be at a premium for Sunday's Broncos playoff game. But the Denver7 Investigators found street parking in the neighborhoods surrounding the stadium that won't cost you a thing.

"Most of the spaces in these neighborhoods require a residential parking permit. But there are some spaces on a lot of blocks that are free of restriction," said Nancy Kuhn, spokeswoman for Denver Public Works.

Here's how it works:

Ninety-five percent of the spots in the neighborhood surrounding Sports Authority Field at Mile High are zoned for residential parking and require a permit. If you don't have a permit and you park within the area designated by the posted signs, you will get towed.

There are not signs that specifically indicate "Public Parking," but if you pay close attention to the arrows -- on almost every street, there are spots outside of the permit-required areas that anyone can use.

"There's not a lot of them, but they're there," Kuhn said. "Just be real careful when you're getting out of the car to see what restrictions exist."

If you try to park in one of the permitted spots, count on being towed. That could mean a $50 ticket and $125 to get your car back.

On average, the city tows about 60 vehicles during Broncos games.
