DENVER -- The Denver Sheriff’s Department will review Denver Police Chief Robert White’s decision to follow a driver who the chief said hit his vehicle and drove away in late September.

Police are still investigating the ensuing crash, which happened the alleged hit-and-run driver hit another vehicle. Occupants of both of those vehicles were injured. When police complete that investigation, the District Attorney’s office will decide whether or not to file charges against the driver who hit White’s vehicle.

A spokesperson for the Denver Department of Public Safety said Friday the sheriff’s office would open a review into the Chief’s actions after the traffic investigation is complete to determine whether any DPD policies were violated.

If the review ultimately suggests the Chief violated policy, the matter would be reviewed by the Executive Director of Safety and then by Mayor Michael Hancock.

The Chief was treated at a hospital and released the day of the crash.
