WESTMINSTER, Colo. — A man accused of breaking into a Westminster home and then barricading himself from police faces multiple charges, officials said Thursday.

Terry Robert Medina, 41, was arrested Monday after a standoff inside a home in the 13800 block of Osage Court. Medina faces charges of first-degree burglary, second-degree criminal trespassing, criminal attempt, assault in the first degree on a peace officer, felony menacing, possession of a weapon by previous offender and aggravated motor vehicle theft.

The homeowner on Monday reported to police that Medina entered his home through an open garage.

Police said officers found Medina inside a bathroom, where he was barricading the door and yelling that he was "going to come out shooting."

Police negotiators tried talking to Medina for about two hours, but he refused to communicate. Officers then heard what sounded like a weapon being loaded. Medina then walked out of the bathroom with a rifle in his hands and officers said Medina raised the weapon at them, according to police.

One officer fired a handgun and Medina went back into the bathroom. About 30 minutes later, Medina walked out of the bathroom and obeyed officers' commands. He was taken into custody and taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

It was not yet clear if Medina was wounded by the shot fired by the officer. No officers were injured.
