A driver who got out of his car on U.S. 36 on Friday morning was hit and killed.
Westminster police said they don't know why the driver got out of his car, but he was struck by a semi-truck. The driver of truck stayed at the scene and is cooperating with officers, according to police.
Westbound 36 is closed from Federal Boulevard to Sheridan Boulevard.
Westminster police said the highway will be closed for several hours for the investigation.
Police and the Colorado State Patrol are asking drivers to take an alternate route.
