An armed duo has now been arrested by Westminster Police, after police said they pointed a gun at a driver and took off with his car early Wednesday morning.
"Suddenly, there is evil right there in your face," said Bob Roof, who said he was just leaving Starbucks when the couple approached him at the Westminster City Center, in the area of West 92nd Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard at around 10:20 a.m. "I'm very thankful I got out of this the way I did."
The suspect pulled out a gun and demanded the keys to his car, said Roof, and he handed them over.
Westminster police said the same couple was linked to a stolen car a few miles away at 112th and Sheridan before that carjacking.
Later in the day, police said that couple tried another carjacking at 104th and Federal, opening fire in a strip mall parking lot.
Police in the area arrested them shortly after that attempt.
"So we don’t have armed carjackers running around in our city and that’s the most important thing," said Investigator Cheri Spottke with the Westminster Police Department.
Spottke said no one was hurt and the weapon was retrieved by police.
Roof's car was also found and will be returned to him tomorrow, he said.
