Officers with the Aurora Police Department cannot confirm with 7NEWS if a Thursday morning crash was due to street racing or road rage.
The crash happened at around 11:30 a.m. on East Mississippi Avenue east of S. Buckley Road, after one of the drivers involved in the crash hit the rear of an SUV that was going west on Mississippi Avenue, pushing it off the roadway, according to APD officers.
The SUV then went through a fence, rolled over and came to rest on the passenger side against a tree in the backyard of a home, police said. No one was injured.
"I'm just glad he (the driver) survived," said David Cogar, whose fence was hit in the incident. "You can replace a fence. You can't replace a life," he said.
Cogar also said the driver appeared to be a teenager or a person in his early 20s. He was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
Cogar told 7NEWS he came home just after the crash and said the SUV driver had three dogs inside the car with him at the time of the crash. One of them died at the scene, another was taken to an animal hospital for treatment and the last one ran off.
The at-fault driver remained on the scene of the crash and is being charged with reckless driving, an APD official said.
