Warrant: Parolee linked to robbery series by ankle monitor

DENVER -- A Denver Police Department search warrant says investigators caught a serial robber linked to crimes across the city because he was a parolee wearing a GPS ankle monitor.

Isaac Banks, 32, was arrested on charges of aggravated robbery, and now police are asking to see more of the GPS data to determine if he is connected to additional crimes.

On Sept 27, 2016, two people robbed the Compass Bank at 4115 E. Colfax at gunpoint.

Two days later, the same bank was robbed again, and the surrounding neighborhood was shut down for hours while police searched for the suspects.

The search warrant states that police received an anonymous tip on Oct. 3, 2016 that Banks was the robber, and that he was a parolee wearing a GPS ankle monitor.

Banks' parole officer confirmed that, "Banks does in fact have a GPS system attached to his body that he cannot remove without an alarm being sent to the patrol office."

Data reviewed during the time period of the robberies was consistent with Banks being at both robberies, according to the search warrant.

Police also arrested Brianna Moore, 24, in connection with the first Compass Bank robbery, after which they learned about additional crimes.

Records state investigators used GPS evidence to connect Banks to a Sept. 23 robbery at the Boost Mobile at 2228 Bruce Randolph Ave., and a Sept. 26 robbery at the White Fence Farm restaurant at 18630 E. Green Valley Ranch Blvd.

Police also arrested Donald Brooks, 29, in connection with the White Fence Farm robbery.

The search warrant states officers are requesting more data from BI Incorporated about Banks' GPS locations.

"This additional data will be instrumental in eliminating or including Banks as a suspect in additional robberies in the Denver area," the warrant states.

Banks is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on April 18. He has a long criminal history, including a 2004 robbery conviction, three convictions for felony escape and a conviction for felony narcotics possession. He was returned to state prison in 2015 for a parole violation.
