The Boulder Reservoir swim area will remain closed at least through Wednesday, June 15, according to a statement released by Boulder Parks and Recreation officials.

"[A] routine water sampling test determined bacteria levels to be elevated," officials stated. "The reservoir swim area will re-open once bacteria levels are reduced."

The Boulder Reservoir swim area was closed Wednesday, June 8, due to elevated bacteria levels in the water and officials had hoped to open up the area on Thursday, June 9.

The swim area reopened on Friday, June 10, for Ironman athletes, but it was closed to the general public, a Boulder Parks and Recreation official tweeted.

The increased levels of bacteria were believed to be the result of rain runoff.

The swim area is located at 5565 North 51st Street.
