THORNTON, Colo. — In the Brantner Elementary School Library in Thornton, there are no shortage of stories. One of the most important ones won't be found in the library's rows of books.

Maggie Poling has become known for her philanthropic soul and love for both kids and books.

"Maggie has a passion and devotion that is out of this world. She is so dedicated to the kids and our school and it’s a profound dedication," said teacher Carolin Gardner.

That dedication started seven years ago, when the school was forced to cut its librarian position. So, Ms. Poling and her big, giving heart stepped in to help.

"It needed to be to done and they needed to have a librarian, so I just stepped up and made sure I could do it the best way I could," Poling said.

Each week, Ms. Poling gives 20 hours of her time to keep the little place running. She organizes and catalogs books, creates schedules and puts on the school's scholastic book fairs. She is as fond of the students as they are of her.

"I thought she actually worked here; I didn’t think she was a volunteer," said third-grader Oke Johnson.

"It makes you feel good," Poling said. "I just think it’s really important to give back as much as you can because you never know who needs it."

It's a story of giving back that's leaving a lasting impression.
