DENVER, Colo. — For Paul Camp, giving back is the way he shows his gratitude for all the blessings in his life.

"I’ve been blessed throughout my life. Growing up in a lovely, safe comfortable neighborhood, but I’ve been around and seen people who are suffering because they don’t have that and just felt like it was a calling for me to give back," Paul Camp said.

It's why three years ago he began volunteering for Habitat For Humanity's Core Construction Program. The retired landscape architect wanted to help families who haven't been as fortunate build a better foundation and, hopefully, find a fresh start.

"I like helping people who are desiring to stay in their home, need a little bit of help, need a little bit of work and you get a chance to meet the people who you’re helping and they’re so gracious and thankful for our efforts," Camp said.

Camp helps renovate homes in the metro area for families who have hit hard times.

"Paul just has a servant's heart and is truly willing to help out wherever is most needed," Nicole StanekScot, director of volunteer engagement for Habitat For Humanity of Metro Denver, said.

Recently, that need was a Denver fixer upper.

"We’re putting in some new windows, new siding, building some fences that need some help and love," Camp said. "Just generally revitalizing the exterior of this home."

Camp knows this isn't just about renovating a families home—it's about restoring their dignity too.

"This is their refuge. This is their safe place. This is where memories are made for families like this and what greater calling for us to just be able to help make it safe," Camp said.

Paul Camp reminds us all practicing gratitude is not just about counting your blessings—it's about creating them as well.
