Eight years ago, Judy Durzo began looking for a post-retirement volunteer opportunity. You could say the rest is history.
As soon as she started learning about Colorado's history, she was fascianted.
The east coast girl found big love for the Rocky Mountain region and events that shaped the state into what it is today. Each week, Durzo volunteers for History Colorado, teaching people about our great state through tours and working behind the scenes on the Tours and Treks program.
A look at her volunteer hours proves Durzo's dedication is undeniable: Last year, she clocked 900 hours.
"For one individual to devote their time volunteering for an organization — it really shows the passion that she has for history and for history Colorado and everything that we do," said Michael Vincent, public programs manager for History Colorado.
Durzo came to the museum looking to give back, but it's the connections with both our state and the people who love it that keep her coming back year after year.
"My favorite part about working with Judy is the energy she brings in each day," Vincent said. "The moments that we get to catch up, since I’m often traveling a lot or she is volunteering elsewhere, the moments that we do get to connect it feels like we’re family in a way."
