BOULDER, Colo. — No matter what you order from Irene Hillson, every delivery comes with a big helping of hospitality.

"She's the best and she brings flowers besides that for older people like me," said one 98-year-old resident.

Once a week, Irene makes the rounds at Boulder's Golden West Senior Living. She delivers groceries to seniors with the non-profit, Cultivate, which is dedicated to getting seniors in Boulder County the food they desperately need.

"Irene is one of our delivery drivers and she shows up every week and picks up groceries, brings them here and distributes them to her clients, helping put them away or get jars open and she never hesitates when we have a need for an extra volunteer to step right in," said Chrysti Britt, Executive Director for Cultivate.

Irene is clearly filling more than just cupboards. She also sends postcards to the seniors she serves when she is on vacation. She brings them flowers and sometimes she stops by just to have lunch.

For the seniors, it's about so much more than groceries. It's about love, connection and companionship, all the fixings so many of our elderly are truly hungry for.

"It is so rewarding to know at the end of the day I made someone's life easier, happier or simply fun," Hillson said.
