A group of five friends, who combined have nearly 100 years of restaurant experience, are joining forces to bring Hamburger Mary’s back to Denver, but this time there’s a sporty twist.

Mile High Hamburger Mary’s will breathe life back into the former BSide building on 17th Avenue and Humboldt Street with its soft opening on Monday and grand opening expected for early September.

The kitschy gay-friendly burger restaurant was birthed in San Francisco in 1972 and now has 15 locations, including Denver’s, across the country. The new location is only a few blocks east of the former Hamburger Mary’s, which was rebranded into M Uptown in late December after the franchisees failed to renegotiate a contract.

The five friends quickly scooped up the Denver franchise.

“We’re excited to bring Mary back to Mile High and we’re looking forward to seeing the smiles and happiness on people’s faces,” operating partner David Zahradnik said.
