Sex plays a role in determining cancer risk

DENVER – Not everyone has the same risk for cancer and it may have more to do than you think with your sex than your family genetics.

The American Cancer Society says one in three women will get cancer over their lifetime.  For men, that number is one in two.  What types of cancer your most at risk for can be determined by environment, lifestyle, genetics and other factors.

Still, the ACS says survival rates for many cancers are on the way up thanks in part to efforts to increase early detection as well as research that’s being done for treatments.

Awareness and fundraising are the reasons behind the Denver NovemBEARD campaign Denver7’s Jason Gruenauer and Russell Haythorn are taking part in along with other volunteers.
