DENVER (AP) — Colorado Gov. John John Hickenlooper has pardoned one man convicted of murder and shortened the sentences of six others.

The Colorado Sun reports that Hickenlooper on Friday granted a conditional pardon to Promise Y. Lee, who pleaded guilty in 1975 to second-degree murder in the death of a Fort Carson Soldier. Lee was 15 at the time of the slaying.

Hickenlooper said he pardoned Lee because of his work to help young people stay out of trouble.

The six whose sentences were shortened will now be eligible for parole between 2020 and 2039.

Hickenlooper, a Democrat, is in his last weeks in office. He could not run for re-election because of term limits.

Earlier this month, he shortened the sentences of six other men convicted of murder.
