DENVER — Denver7 Read to Lead is partnering with Food Bank of the Rockies this summer to ensure that families in low-income neighborhoods have both the food and books they need to thrive.

Food Bank of the Rockies’ Mobile Pantry brings food directly to communities where more food assistance is needed. This is a much-needed program, especially in the summer when children don’t have access to free and reduced-cost meal programs at school.

Denver7 Read to Lead is joining Food Bank of the Rockies this summer, distributing free children’s books at Mobile Pantry sites. Denver7 believes that literacy is crucial to success in school and in life. Studies show that children who grow up with books in the home enjoy a substantial advantage over children who do not, and more than 60 percent of low-income families have no children’s books in their home. By distributing free books this summer, Denver7 hopes to help kids learn to read and read more often.

The Denver7 news team and employees will be distributing thousands of books to children and families at the Food Bank of the Rockies Mobile Pantry sites at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park and Aurora Public Schools Credit Union.
