DENVER – The Centennial State celebrates its 143rd birthday on Thursday, Aug. 1 with a free event at History Colorado Center proudly supported by Denver7. More than 20 partner attractions — from alpacas to mascots to trivia with Smokey Bear and Denver7 meteorologist Mike Nelson — come together to create an epic day worthy of this momentous occasion. Balloons, birthday cake, a bounce house, live music, Folklorico Dancers, story time and trivia are just the tip of the snow cone at this carnivalesque gathering fit for an entire state.

Colorado’s best birthday party is back and better than ever. This year’s Colorado Day celebration includes a first-time outdoor block party in addition to great programming and performances inside.

Amid all the fun and games, History Colorado will also get some business done announcing its finalists for the 2019 Most Significant Object competition and passing the role of official State Historian from Dr. Tom Noel to Dr. William Wei.

The event is free and open to the public from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (The outdoor block party closes at 2:30 p.m.) No advance registration is required. Covered parking is available in the Cultural Center Complex Garage (enter from 12th Avenue between Broadway and Acoma) or RTD will bring you right to the museum’s doorstep. History Colorado Center is located at 1200 Broadway, Denver, CO 80203.
