If you’re not really feeling the love this Valentine’s Day, Jill Biden might help bring the warm and fuzzies. The first lady installed valentines to the American people on the North Lawn of the White House early on Feb. 12.

The giant hearts in pink, white and red bear the words such as “unity,” “hope” and “love.”

“I just wanted some joy,” the first lady told reporters during the surprise appearance on the lawn with President Joe Biden and their two German shepherds, Champ and Major.

“I think things have been so — with the pandemic — everybody’s feeling a little down, so it’s just a little joy, a little hope, that’s all,” Jill added.

The first lady shared images of the display, including one of her putting the finishing touches to the hearts, on her @FLOTUS Twitter account. She can be seen writing, “love, Jill,” at the bottom of an oversized red heart bearing the word “healing.”

The oversized hearts stand behind the row of cameras set up for White House reporters’ live shots and were featured on all major news channels throughout the day on Feb. 12, including NBC News, who shared footage of President Biden and Jill Biden on their Twitter page.

In a statement shared by The Hill, the first lady’s office said, “As you may know, the first lady is known for her sense of humor, love of surprises, and celebrating traditions, especially with her family. Valentine’s Day has always been one of her favorite holidays.”

The president backed this up, telling reporters that Valentine’s Day is the first lady’s “favorite day,” and shared that during his vice presidency, she posted hearts all over the windows of his office.

When asked how he would extend their “love story” to the American people at a time when so many are suffering due to the coronavirus pandemic, Biden said, “Tell them there is hope. You just have to stay strong.”
