CHICAGO – MillerCoors, the Chicago-based beer brewing company with Colorado roots, is donating 200,000 cans of water as Hurricane Florence nears the southern East Coast of the United States.
The water cans will be distributed at Red Cross and community shelters across states that could be potentially affected by the hurricane, a company spokesman said in a press release Wednesday.
“We hope this water donation provides some relief and comfort to residents and first responders in Hurricane Florence’s path,” said Karina Diehl, MillerCoors Senior Director for National Community Affairs. “It’s a MillerCoors priority to do our part in helping the communities where our consumers, employees and distributors call home.”
In total, MillerCoors will donate 200,000 cans, coming on 80 pallets. Each case is a 12-pack filled with 12 ounces of water in each can. The water cans will be shipped from the MillerCoors brewery in Shenandoah, Va.
The humanitarian effort isn’t new for MillerCoors.
Last year, the beer brewing company delivered a total of 550,000 cans of drinking water to Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico and the Caribbean in the aftermath of three hurricanes: Harvey, Irma and Maria.
MillerCoors launched the program in partnership with Broomfield-based Ball. Together, both companies have made the commitment to provide more than two million cans to the Red Cross to help communities affected by disasters over the next two years.
Colorado first responders, volunteers head for the Carolinas
On Tuesday, first responders from different agencies and volunteers from all over Colorado headed to North Carolina to help with rescue and recovery efforts needed once Hurricane Florence makes landfall.
Forty-five members of the Colorado Task Force 1 Urban Search and Rescue Team prepared to meet Hurricane Florence head-on. The team members are highly trained to handle dangerous situations like rescuing people in floods and high winds.
Red Cross volunteers here in Colorado are also headed to the storm to provide any aid that may be necessary.
