DENVER — Temperatures soared to 79 degrees in Denver on Monday. The record high withstood the challenge and still stands at 84 degrees, set in 1950. The normal high for late in October is 60 degrees.
The forecast is for colder and wetter weather to arrive Tuesday and for Halloween. A strong cold front will push across Colorado by dawn, with rain showers changing to light snow for Denver and the northeast plains by late morning.
The heaviest snowfall will occur Tuesday afternoon and evening with 1 to 2 inches from Denver north to Fort Collins, with 2 to 4 inches south of Denver toward Parker. Areas along and north of the Palmer Divide will get 3 to 6 inches of snow.
In the mountains, six to ten inches of snow will be possible Tuesday and Wednesday. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for areas south and west of Denver. The core of the Denver Metro Area is not under an advisory at this time.
Temperatures will start out around in the middle 40s in the morning, but fall into the mid-30s by late afternoon. Tuesday afternoon will be about 30 to 40 degrees colder than Monday afternoon! The Tuesday afternoon commute will be wet and slow with some snow covered roads in the mountains and closer to the Palmer Divide.
The storm will exit Colorado to the south Tuesday night with clearing skies by Wednesday morning. Temperatures will drop into the middle 20s early Wednesday and some roads will be slippery.
Halloween will be cold for trick-or-treaters! The weather will be dry, but there will be some snow on the ground in many areas. Temperatures will be in the low to mid-30s during the main Trick or Treat time in the late afternoon and early evening.
The weather will stay cool through the rest of the week with highs in the low to mid-50s Thursday and Friday for Denver. A series of weak disturbances will bring some light snow to the mountains, but just mid to high level clouds for Denver and the eastern plains.
The weekend will be milder with highs returning to around 60 degrees in the Denver area.
