DENVER — The last few days of 2020 will leave us with a chill - fitting perhaps! A storm system is moving across Colorado and will bring a few more inches of snow to the mountains tonight and Tuesday. Denver and the eastern plains can expect cold weather and up to an inch or two of snow before the storm moves out of the state on Tuesday

Winter Weather Advisories and Winter Storm Warnings are in effect for the mountains along with an Avalanche Watch - be careful in the back country in the wake of this storm.

The storm will become stronger and better organized after it moves out of Colorado. Much of the central and northern Great Plains can expect heavy snow and strong winds Tuesday into Wednesday. Travel will be difficult across Kansas, Nebraska, the Dakotas and Minnesota.

After the storm leaves Colorado, dry and cool days will round out 2020. Wednesday will be sunny, but chilly, with highs in the upper 30s. A bit milder on Thursday, with temperatures climbing to the middle 40s.

A minor storm system will arrive late Thursday with light snow for the mountains and flurries for the plains Thursday night and Friday. In Denver, expect a high of 38 degrees on New Year's Day.

Milder weather is expected for the first weekend of 2021 with highs in the 40s. By next Monday, temperatures may reach 50 degrees in the Denver area.
