DENVER —
Temperatures remain a little cooler than normal across Colorado. In Denver, the afternoon high on Wednesday was 81 degrees, about 6 degrees below average for this time in August. Overnight lows will be in the mid-to upper 50s in Denver and across the plains.
In the mountains, skies will be mostly cloudy with widely scattered showers and thunderstorms overnight. Low temperatures will be in the 40s to around 50 degrees.
On Thursday, there will be areas of low clouds early, followed by more sunshine and warmer temperatures as highs return to the upper 80s. There will still be a few afternoon storms, mainly over the mountains and foothills, while Denver and the eastern plains will be mostly sunny.
The thick smoke and haze of recent days did improve slightly in Denver and across eastern Colorado on Wednesday. Air quality will not return to the beautiful blue we are used to as another large area of smoke and haze is forecast to move into Wyoming and northern Colorado Thursday afternoon
Friday through Sunday, warm and mainly dry weather is expected with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s for lower elevations and 70s to low 80s in the mountains. Just a few thunderstorms will be possible over the mountains and will produce lightning and wind as opposed to heavy rainfall.
The warm weather will continue into early next week with mainly dry conditions statewide. Some thunderstorms may pop up again by next Tuesday or Wednesday.
