DENVER — The weather over the next several days will be very typical for the middle of May - mild and dry mornings and afternoon thunderstorms. The rain chances will be increasing over the next few days with the best chance for rain Sunday afternoon through Tuesday.

The recent moisture has been a huge benefit for Denver, the Front Range and the eastern plains. At Denver International Airport, the total precipitation since Jan. 1 is at just over 8 inches — about the same amount as in all of 2020! We are now about 4 inches above normal when it comes to precipitation for this time of year.

The overall pattern looks wet for the next five days. Afternoon storms will be likely across Colorado, but temperatures will remain near normal. Highs will be in the upper 60s to low 70s on the plains and 50s to low 60s in the mountains. Lows will be in the 40s for lower elevations and upper 20s to middle 30s in the mountains.

We will see a cooling trend early next week with warmer and drier weather late next week.
