Warmer weather returns Wednesday

DENVER — Late August and early September generally mark the tail end of thunderstorm season for Denver and most of Colorado. The upper atmosphere is warm by this time in the summer and the surface is not as hot, due to the gradual decline in sun angle.  The result is a more stable atmosphere and fewer afternoon storms.

There still will be some isolated afternoon storms, but they will be weak and short lived for the most part. The weather pattern will be pretty peaceful around Colorado for the next several days.

Skies are still a bit on the hazy side, thanks to smoke particles from numerous western wildfires, but the overall air quality will be moderately good.

The weather will remain quiet for the rest of the week. It will also get quite a bit warmer. Expect middle 80s on Wednesday, with highs closer to 90 degrees on Thursday and Friday.

A few weak cold fronts will push across the northern Rockies in the next 5 to 7 days, but they will merely brush Colorado with an increase in clouds and a slight chance for some showers.  Most areas will remain dry, warm and pleasant into early next week.
