DENVER --

Hot and mostly dry weather will hold for Colorado this week, with highs in the 90s for lower elevations and 80s in the mountains.

Sunny and dry conditions are expected each morning, with scattered clouds and just a few thunderstorms each afternoon. Rain chances will stay quite low (10 to 20%) for most of the week - and the storms that do develop will produce more wind and lightning than rain.

Mountain areas will be in the 80s by day and drop to the 40s overnight.  Skies will be sunny in the morning, with a few light thunderstorms developing in the afternoon.

Be sure to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen and be careful with any outdoor burning during this hot and dry period.

Over the weekend, a slight shift in the weather pattern may bring a little better chance for showers and thunderstorms and a subtle drop in temperatures by Sunday and Monday.
