DENVER — From 70s Sunday to snow on Monday - Springtime in Colorado can be crazy! A First Alert Action Day will continue through tonight and Tuesday.

After a warm weekend, Mother Nature has turned a cold shoulder to Colorado! Temperatures tumbled behind a strong cold front and in many areas were 40 degrees colder on Monday, compared to Sunday afternoon.

Along with the cold has come moisture. Periods of moderate to heavy snow can be expected tonight and Tuesday in the mountains and foothills - especially over the northern half of Colorado. Accumulations of 8 to 16 inches can be expected in the mountains above 10,000 feet - heaviest in the mountains north of I-70.

Snowfall totals will be much lighter near Denver, but heavier to the north near Fort Collins and close to the foothills. Expect around 1 to 3 inches close to Denver, 3 to 8 inches across the northern Front Range near Fort Collins, 4 to 8 inches in the foothills and 8 to 16 inches in the mountains through tonight and Tuesday morning.

Tuesday will stay chilly with light rain and some wet, slushy snow possible in Denver. Highs will stay only in the 40s with low temperatures close to the freezing mark.

Cool and unsettled weather will continue on Wednesday with a good chance for afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Highs will be in the 50s to low 60s.

The weather will greatly improve for the end of the week with 60s and 70s returning Thursday and Friday.
