DENVER — First Alert Action Day: A major snowstorm is heading into Colorado to start our Thanksgiving travel week.

The new storm system will move into Colorado on Monday with snow developing in the mountains and clouds increasing on the plains. Highs will be in the 30s in the mountains and middle 40s in Denver. Snow should develop in Denver Monday evening.

A Winter Storm Warning will be in effect Monday night through Tuesday, with heavy snow likely. As of now, total snow accumulations of 6 to 14 inches are possible. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph. Highs will only be in the low 30s.

Travel could be very difficult to impossible, especially during the day Tuesday. Tuesday looks to be cold and snowy across Colorado.

Skies clear out on Wednesday and temperatures stay chilly. For Thanksgiving, we're expecting partly cloudy skies and highs in the low 40s.

Another storm system may impact Colorado by Friday and next weekend. Stay tuned.
