DENVER — The hot and mainly dry weather pattern continues today. Temperatures will stay closer to the record high than to the normal high. Denver's average high this time of year is in the upper 70s.
Mostly sunny skies to start and isolated late afternoon and evening thunderstorms will remain the rule through Friday. Highs will be in the upper 80s to low 90s for lower elevations and 70s to low 80s in the mountains. Elevations above 11,000 feet will be in the 60s, but can quickly drop to the mid to upper 40s during a thunderstorm — plan ahead if hiking or camping.
The severe weather threat will remain fairly low near Denver, but there will be a greater risk across the northeastern plains both Thursday and Friday. The main concern across the Denver metro area is lightning, small hail and winds gusting to 50 mph.
Hot weather will hang around over the weekend, with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s for Denver and close to 100 degrees over southeastern Colorado. Thunderstorms will be likely Saturday, but drier weather is expected Sunday.
Breezy and cooler weather will return early next week for a short visit, followed by more heat as we head into the middle of June.
