DENVER — It will be hot and dry across Colorado through Labor Day, but we are in for a monster of a change next week! A Winter Storm Watch has already been issued for metro Denver on Tuesday for the cold and snow heading our way.
Temperatures climbed into the 90s to near 100 degrees for lower elevations on Sunday. We broke the record on Saturday, with a high of 101 degrees recorded at DIA. We also tied Sunday's record of 97, set in 2013.
In the high country, highs will be in the upper 70s to middle 80s in the afternoon and Monday.
Denver has recorded 72 days of 90 degrees or hotter this summer. The tally is creeping closer to the all-time record mark of 73 days, set in 2012. Will tie that record on Monday.
After a very hot and dry Sunday, temperatures will drop a little on Labor Day. Expect low to mid 90s in Denver with increasing clouds as a cold front moves into the state from the northern Rockies.

In the mountains, scattered showers will develop late Monday afternoon with colder temperatures by evening.
Depending upon the track of this next front, the northern and central mountains and the foothills west of Denver may see several inches of snow Tuesday and Tuesday night.
Denver and the eastern plains will have a chilly rain and much cooler weather on Tuesday with highs in the 30s! 3"-6" of snow expected around Denver and there could be 8"-14" in the foothills and mountains.
Skies will clear for the middle of next week with a slow warming trend.
