DENVER — Skies have been very hazy across Colorado as the smoke particles from California and Colorado wildfires have spread across the central Rockies. The smoke is thick enough in many areas to cause some respiratory distress for folks with COPD or asthma. If you are feeling the effects of the smoke, limit physical activity and try to stay in an air conditions environment.
Temperatures have been heating up, despite the hazy skies. Highs reached the mid-to upper 80s in Denver and across the eastern plains, with readings in the 90s in the Western Valleys of Colorado. Mountain temperatures were mostly in the 70s to low 80s.
It does appear that the bulk of the haze will drift farther to the east of Colorado on Thursday, with more sunshine expected.
Hotter temperatures can be expected on Thursday with highs in the low 90s for Denver and across much of eastern Colorado. In the mountains, highs will be in the 70s to low 80s and temperatures in Grand Junction should be around 100 degrees.
Hot weather with 90s can be expected for Friday through Sunday. A few afternoon storms may develop on Friday and again on Sunday.
In the mountains, temperatures will be in the upper 70s to mid-80s through the weekend with some widely scattered afternoon thunderstorms.
Fire danger will remain high across the state as the hotter weather returns.
