DENVER — Skies are mostly clear over Colorado, with unseasonably warm weather. Afternoon highs in the Denver area reached the mid to upper 60s with 40s to around 50 degrees in the mountains and western valleys.
Now, some high clouds are drifting into Colorado from the west - just ahead of a cold front that will cross the state early Thursday and bring colder weather and snow for Friday.
Skies will become cloudy Thursday, with temperatures about 20 degrees colder than recent days. The mountains will start to pick up some snow by afternoon, with snow developing across the Denver metro area Thursday night.
This storm will not be a major system, but will drop 2 to 4 inches of snow over the metro area and 4 to 8 inches in the mountains by late Friday. Nonetheless, a Denver7 Weather Action Day will be in effect starting at 10 PM Wednesday through 10 PM Friday due to the rather big shift from warm and dry to cold and snow.
Saturday will be cold with snow showers - just minor accumulations for lower elevations, but a few more inches in the mountains. Highs will be in the low 30s in Denver and in the 20s in the high country.
Sunday should be sunny, but cool and dry for the Bronco game. Highs will be in the low 40s. Monday will be a bit milder, but clouds will be increasing ahead of the next chance for snow. Highs will be in the upper 40s.
Colder weather with a chance for more snow is in the forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday.
