DENVER —Winter officially begins today at 3:23 p.m., but it’s not going to feel like it. It will be warm and dry with upper 50s to low 60s under a mostly sunny sky. In the mountains, get ready for spring skiing conditions with temperatures in the upper 30s to low 40s.

Late this afternoon and evening, snow showers will develop over our northern and central mountains. A Winter Weather Advisory goes into effect on Saturday in the high country. Expect gusty winds, around 4-8 inches of snow for higher elevations and around 2-4 inches at the valley level. Blowing snow, limited visibility and some slick conditions will be likely through Saturday. Please practice caution when driving in the mountains.

Across the Denver metro-area, there is a chance for light snow through Saturday. Highs tomorrow will only be in the low 40s. Skies clear across the state late Saturday night, into Sunday morning.

Sunday and Monday (Christmas Eve) will be dry and mild - good weather for traveling. Christmas Day will start dry, but clouds will increase and some snow will develop later in the day.

It does appear that the weather will slip back into a more active pattern Christmas night and on the 26th with colder temperatures and a chance for snow in Denver!
