DENVER — The 90-degree-plus streak continues through Monday. Our record highs are mostly in the low 100s and the predicted highs will be just shy of those numbers - mostly in the mid to upper 90s.
Sunday, a high of 97 degrees was recorded out at DIA, making it 11 straight days of temperatures at or above 90° in Denver. Overnight, expect lows to drop into the mid-60s across the metro-area.
A number of severe warned storms rolled over the eastern plains of Colorado Sunday late-afternoon and evening. Storm activity has moved east of the state and skies gradually clear overnight.
Monday in Denver, highs return to the mid-90s under a partly cloudy sky. The mountains will see a few showers to start, with scattered storm activity in the afternoon.
Tuesday and Wednesday will be a little less hot with a better chance for showers and thunderstorms. Highs will dip below the 90 degree mark (which we haven't seen since July 1), back to the mid and upper 80s.
We don't get a break from the heat for long though! Hot and dry weather is expected late next week.
Drought conditions continue to get worse across Colorado, especially in the southern portion of the state. In Baca and Prowers Counties in the southeast corner, soil conditions are now rated as "extreme drought."
Be very careful with any outdoor burning as fire danger is very high statewide.
The overall longer term pattern for Colorado remains hot and dry.
