DENVER — Summer is holding on strong across Colorado!
These temperatures are unseasonably hot. We had another day in the 90s for Saturday. (normal highs should be around 79 degrees right now in the Denver metro area)
Since Monday we have had 5 record highs tied or broken...that's 5 records out of 6 days. We missed having 6 straight days of record breaking heat by 1 degree on Wednesday. We have now had 57 days that are 90+ this summer~ which ranks us in the top 5 hottest summers in Denver. We are sitting at #4 for highest number of 90 degree days. There are still a few more in our future as well.
Northwestern Colorado continues to have high fire danger with gusty winds, dry conditions and low relative humidity.
The aspens are really pretty in the northern and central mountains! It is a nice time to get up to the high country and enjoy the annual display of aspen gold, especially in areas along and north of I-70. Southern mountain areas will be reaching peak color in another 7 to 10 days.
Little change in the overall weather pattern is expected through early next week. Hot and dry conditions will prevail statewide, although temperatures will not be quite as high — around 90 degrees on Saturday and in the upper 80s for Sunday. Fire danger will remain high, so be careful out there!
So far, we have seen 55 days of 90-degree-plus heat here in Denver. That's about 10 more days than normal.
The gradual cooling trend will come by the middle of next week with highs returning to the low to mid 80s by Wednesday. There will be some showers on Thursday with highs in the 70s!
